An article in the April 8 issue of Computerworld featured information contributed by several speakers in the Resource on Demand showcase. The article was IBM License Hard to Adopt: Users, which can be read here. Interestingly, IBM announced a major change in their Workload License Charge mechanism three weeks after the article was published. The changes went into effect on July 1, 2002. As a result, all of the authors in that showcase are updating their presentations to account for the very substantial changes IBM has implemented. CMG 2002 will probably provide the first comprehensive analysis of these changes as seen by multiple analysts. A later Computerworld article from August 26, titled IBM says its mainframe pricing model isn't for everyone, also quotes a showcase speaker and can be read here. One of our Invited Speakers, Andrew Odlyzko, was recently identified in the Wall Street Journal as one of the first researchers to question the excesses of the dot-com era in an article Wildly Optimistic Data Drove Telecoms to Build Fiber Glut. You can read this article here. Another of our presenters was quoted in Federal Computer Week (June 3 issue). The article Better Late Than Never (Storage area networks may see lift from IP-based high-bandwidth connection) is written by Jon William Toigo, one of our Storage Showcase speakers. You can read this article here. Last Updated 04/23/10
