These instructions are for CMG'08 referees. All questions should be referred to the respective Subject Area Chair (SAC). Click here to see the Conference Committee
Peer level evaluation of submitted papers is rare in professional conferences and remains an essential part of creating a quality CMG conference. The process is blind, i.e. you should see no reference to the author or company in the papers you are evaluating.
When you review a paper, try to determine if it meets the needs of our practitioner-oriented membership. Also review the paper constructively. Read and understand the CMG Paper & Presentation policy. (NOTE: the policy has been revised recently. Even if you have read it before, please look it over again this year.)
It will be found at www.cmg.org/conference/prespol.html
You have been assigned to Subject Areas based on your expertise in certain areas and disciplines. You will be "qualified" by your respective SACs regarding your availability for the refereeing period, and to verify your address, phone, fax and email addresses.
Papers are due on June 13, 2008. Your SAC will assign up to four (could be more in some cases) papers to you using the CMG Abstract and Paper Submission System. The SAC will contact you to provide you with your referee number and password to access the system. Please review the documentation for assistance with the Abstract and Paper Submission System. Your SAC may assign you a paper as soon as it comes in. Most papers arrive just before the deadline, but some authors get them in early. Note that, if you get an early assignment, the author may revise the paper up until the submission deadline. So you will need to check, at the deadline, to see if you need to look at a revised version.
Download your assigned papers. If you have problems of any kind, notify your SAC at once. By July 3, your SAC should be checking with you to make sure you're having no problems.
When you are reading and evaluating the papers, you may annotate the paper. This can be done via a word processor and uploaded using the paper submission system, or the paper may be printed and annotated manually (the former is preferred). Hard copy annotations can be mailed to:
CMG HeadquartersEvaluation Instructions:
Be objective and constructive. Any comments should be respectful and encouraging as opposed to disparaging. We encourage the referees to include their names and e-mail addresses when there are additional comments so that the authors can follow up on your suggestions.
If a paper contains technical errors, violates the CMG Presentation Policy, is trivial, or is beyond editorial help, it should be rejected.
Complete one Referee Report for each paper assigned to you. The Referee Report should be completed via the Abstract and Paper Submission System.
Please note: Your browser must be set to accept cookies in order to referee papers
If you are aware of the paper having been previously published, note it on the referee form.
Complete your evaluations by July 18, 2008. They will automatically be available to your Subject Area Chair, CMG HQ and the Program Chair.
If you have any questions about CMG policy, your assigned papers, or anything else, do not hesitate to call or email your Subject Area Chair, the Program Chair (), or call CMG HQ at 1-800-436-7264. You can also email CMG HQ at: .
